Though there are many sources for long-range forecasting, I'm not a big believer in the ability of anyone to pin down upcoming monthly snowfall totals. BOISE – Idaho Gov. Butch Otter says he'll appoint the state's lieutenant governor on Tuesday – that's the same day that current Lt. Gov. Jim Risch will be sworn in as a U.S. senator and resign the state post – and Otter has named names of 16 people he's talked to about the job. 
Breakfast plans were momentarily waylaid after cruising by the Blue Plate Cafe and seeing that there were more cars in the parking lot than there were square feet in the restaurant itself. Spokane Valley drivers didn't get the message when the city put up a sign at Argonne and Indiana prohibiting left turns from the northbound lanes during most daylight hours. After hundreds of people violated the new rule, the City Council voted this week to permanently close the intersection. 
If the snowplowing budgets of Spokane Valley and Liberty Lake were written down on paper and run through a snowblower, they might look a little better than they do now. Make plans now to attend the sixth annual Awards Gala hosted by the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce Jan. 24 at the Mirabeau Park Hotel. 
Fresh additions of rain and wet snow have been fatal to several businesses roofs in Spokane Valley in the last week, keeping Valley Fire hopping from call to call. Heavy snowfall led to another quiet week from Dec. 8 to 15 for the Liberty Lake Police Department, unless you count the number of stuck motorists officers helped on their way.
